Message from the Headmaster

As a school, our vocation is to provide young men with the best education we can in order to equip them for life in the 21st century. We have faith in the power of the human mind to address the problems facing our world and we aim to train the minds of the students in our care to this purpose. We specialise in the education of boys and bring a rigour to our intellectual pursuits, which are shaped by our commitment to bringing out the best in each individual student.

- Dr Paul Hicks (Headmaster).

About Camberwell Grammar School

Camberwell Grammar School has been educating boys for more than 125 years. We are proud of our record of academic excellence, and of our achievements as a school in that time.

Our vision of education, however, is not limited exclusively to the mind. We aim to educate the complete person — mind, spirit, heart and body. Learning at Camberwell is not restricted to the classroom but also takes place in chapel services, on the sporting field, in the drama studio and on the music podium.

We hope to produce interesting and interested young men who will live their lives to the fullest.

The thing we value most is our sense of community. We see ourselves as part of a partnership with students and parents in an educational mission which helps to shape the future. We began as a community school near Camberwell Junction in 1886 and we have retained that sense of belonging and inclusion to this day.

Why Camberwell Grammar School

At Camberwell Grammar School we believe that a student’s best interests are served by a comprehensive, liberal education that gives boys the opportunity to grow, achieve and learn.

Our school offers the ideal learning environment for boys as they progress through each stage of development. Our teachers are specialists in teaching and engaging boys.

We offer a well-rounded, balanced curriculum that embraces the full learning spectrum, from arts and humanities to sport, science and technology. These opportunities help our students develop to their full potential as they prepare for the world that awaits them beyond the school gates.

Our students are encouraged to embrace the fullness and richness of our curriculum. Success in one discipline does not exclude the exploration of opportunities in another. It is our philosophy that through an engaging, all-encompassing curriculum our students will develop the necessary skills required to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world.

Camberwell Grammar School is a thriving multicultural community that is accepting of students from all backgrounds and faiths, including our international students from Hong Kong, Malaysia, China and beyond. Such a rich international environment enhances our school community and exposes students to a broader, more global experience.

Beyond our school grounds and buildings, above our outstanding academic achievements, we are founded upon a strong sense of community that includes students, teaching staff, parents, and former students who are united by the special time that they have shared at our wonderful school.

Our School Environment

Essential to Camberwell Grammar School is its identity as a single-campus school, encompassing the Junior School (four-yearold Pre-prep to Year 5), Middle School (Years 6 to 8) and Senior School (Years 9 to 12). Accordingly, the school offers our students a safe and secure learning environment as they journey from pre-school to young adulthood.
